We worked with the Museum of London and Culture Mile to create an identity for the 150th anniversary of the Smithfield Market area.
Typography has played a big role in the history of the area, from being the location of many of London’s type foundries to the hand painted signs of shops and market traders (in fact during the renovation of Smithfield Market itself they found a few amazing examples of historic signs). We used this as the basis for the logotype, commissioning designer Dan Cottrell and sign painter Chris Mackenzie-Gray from Toucan Signs to bring it to life.
The hand painted sign became the centrepiece to the identity, routing it in the history of the area. We then commissioned illustrator Abbey Lossing to capture the spirit of the event.
The identity was used extensively across the event as well as in print and OOH.
